Funds for fleets renewal. Assarmatori: “An important step towards the energy transition”

“This is a measure that the Italian shipping industry has been waiting for the last twenty years and that will be able to give a new and decisive boost to investments in the direction of a true and sustainable energy transition policy”.

This is the Assarmatori President’s statement, Stefano Messina, concerning the Implementing Decree with which the Ministry of Infrastructures and Sustainable Mobility (“MIMS”) has detailed the procedures for taking advantage of the 500 million euros, allocated in the Supplementary Fund to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) for the construction of new vessels and the refitting of those already in operation – with a view to decarbonising maritime transport.

“We are bringing a complex measure – continues Messina – also thanks to the work carried out by Minister Enrico Giovannini and the MIMS Directorate General for Maritime Transport, who were able to make this instrument consistent with the European Commission guidelines on state aid. Although the Union regulations are very challenging to the point that they could limit the attractiveness of the measure, we are committed to work with the utmost commitment to achieve the fleets renewing goal engaged on regular services in the country and thus take full advantage of this unique opportunity on the European scene”.
