Assarmatori joined as a member at the first meeting in Brussels of Renewables & Low Carbon Fuels European Alliance.
The Alliance, launched in April by European Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean, is a public-private collaboration of stakeholders from across the transport fuels and other relevant value chains, aimed to boost production and supply of renewable and low-carbon fuels in the waterborne sector.
The aim of the round table in which Assarmatori participates representing the maritime industry alonside the main European and international stakeholders (Round table 3: Production paths and supply chain in waterborne transport) is to contribute to the Alliance’s objectives by identifying the technological paths for the decarbonisation of shipping, as well as the necessary conditions and support measures to guarantee the increase in the production of renewable and low carbon fuels. Particular attention will be paid by the round table to the “barriers” relating to the distribution and production of these fuels, one of the main and most difficult challenges in the path towards achieving the challenging objectives set.
The above-mentioned meeting, attended by Enrico Allieri, Head of Maritime Technology, Safety and the Environment of Assarmatori as a selected member, appointed Alexander Feindt (MAN Energy Solutions) as the Chairman of the Round Table and defined the program work for the next few months.
“Ensuring large-scale and affordable availability of new alternative fuels for maritime transport represents the biggest challenge of our sector – argued the President of Assarmatori Stefano Messina – as the related production, logistics and distribution and storage chain are currently inexistent”. “We are therefore honoured to have been appointed members of the new Alliance. Appointment that confirms the strengthened European profile of our representation as a reliable and expert interlocutor for public decision-makers”.
